Sites for sore eyesThe Stockholm International Peace Research Institute is a useful starting point for those interested in research on conflict, peace and security. The Conflict, Security and Development Group explores the links between poverty, sustainable development, governance and defence. The Global Site hosted by the University of Sussex critically examines issues of global importance and includes interesting writings on war and peace. The Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies is a forum for research and debate on national and international defence and security policies. The Commonwealth Policy Studies unit is involved in a study on parliamentary oversight of the security sector in various commonwealth countries whilst the Defence Analytical Services Agency provides analytical and statistical services and advice to the UK Ministry of Defence, Parliament, other Government departments and the public. Amongst several US based organisations involved in research, evaluation, policy analysis and public education on international security issues, are the Federation of American Scientists, the Center for Defense Information, the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, the Arms Trade Resource Center and the Center for War, Peace and the News Media at New York University. Economists Allied for Arms Reduction is an international NGO which promotes objective economic analysis of war, peace and security with members committed to reductions in military expenditure. The International Institute for Strategic Studies is an independent body providing information and analysis on conflict and military activities. The Arms Control Association website provides the full-text of all the arms treaties. Other useful websites on similar issues are the Switzerland based organisations – the International Relations and Security Network and the Small Arms Survey project. |
