General resources relating to water supply and sanitation include IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre's database, the WELL resource centre, UNICEF's Water, Environment and Sanitation site, SANDEC (Department of Water and Sanitation in Developing Countries) and Loughborough University's Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC).

Case studies of the promotion of water systems and latrines and consequent improvements to health are at: www.usaid.org.ni/storyfiftyfour.htm (Nicaragua) and www.irc.nl/themes/communication/cases/bangladesh.html (Bangladesh). The Environmental Health Project (PDF document) discusses sanitation policy.

GHK (PDF document) covers technical issues of sanitation. The Water and Sanitation Program's (WSP) East Asia and Pacific site has further sanitation options. Useful ecological sanitation sites are the Sanitation Connection (SaniCon), the International Ecological Engineering Society and the Center for Innovation in Alternative Technology.

For private sector development see the World Bank's subsite. WEDC has useful research on pricing and service differentiation issues as has the Public Services International Research Unit. See also WaterAid's work on Private Sector Participation in water and sanitation. The impact of privatisation of health, education and basic infrastructure is the subject of one of Social Watch's reports.

For issues relating to gender and integrated water resource management see the Gender and Water Alliance and the Global Water Partnership. Other gender and development sites are CIDA's Gender Equality site, UNDP's Gender in Development site and UNICEF.

Hygiene promotion issues are addressed by the Environmental Health Project and the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council. Additional sites of interest are IRC's hygiene promotion site and www.globalhandwashing.org for those interested in handwashing promotion.
