Virtual Souk
PeopLink, a non-governmental organisation that helps Moroccan women
rug-makers market products on-line, does away with the middlemen who
would normally do the travelling, marketing and distribution because the
women lack mobility to reach distant markets. Now the Virtual Souk http://casa.mena.org/mdf/vsouk/index.html
allows women to put their products up for sale on the Internet. Where
women craftworkers formerly received only one-tenth of the final price,
they now get 50 percent of the sale price when a rug is sold.
