Aquaculture: farming of plants and animals that live in water, such as fish, shellfish and algae

Peri-urban: land on the fringe of urban settlements demonstrating both rural and urban characteristics

Zoonotic disease: a disease capable of being transmitted from an animal to a human e.g. rabies

Self-recruiting species: animals that do not require repeated stocking in farmer-managed systems and include both indigenous and exotic species

Mycotoxin: a substance produced by mould growing in food or animal feed, potentially causing illness or death when eaten by humans or animals
