Learning about Inclusion and Exclusion in Education: Policy and Implementation in India and South Africa is a Department for International Development (DFID)-funded research project with downloadable reports and a literature review covering many of the main debates. UNESCO’s Diversity and Social Inclusion site has links to reports on education and www.bath.ac.uk/~edsds/inclusion.html is a links site dedicated to inclusive education. Although focusing mainly on cross-sectoral issues of exclusion in the UK, also of interest is the Social Exclusion Unit, as many concerns might be relevant elsewhere.

Eldis Education has downloadable reports on issues such as social exclusion, access, race, ethnicity and gender in education and UNESCO’s Education site includes pages on inclusive education, working children and non-formal education.

Sites which explore issues of gender and education further, include the Partnership on Sustainable Strategies for Girls’ Education and the Gender, Development and Education: Beyond Access Project.

The World Education Forum’s site on Education for All has a range of country reports and thematic studies. A recent DFID study investigating the circumstances of children who are not in school can be found at www.dfid.gov.uk/education/policy/COOS/index.asp and the International Programme for the Elimination of Child Labour’s site has a range of information on the subject of child labour.

www.right-to-education.org looks at education from a rights perspective and www.erp.org.za gives details of the Education Rights Project, a South African initiative assisting individuals and communities to assert and realise their right to a basic education. The Citizenship Foundation promotes citizenship through education and its site has teaching support materials and examples of good practice.

The World Bank’s Community Empowerment and Social Inclusion Learning Program focuses on issues of empowerment and governance while the role of civil society and education is explored at www.unesco.org/education/efa/partnership/civil_society.shtml#publication
